I have picked up man...I began this journey in 1971! I have picked up many "texture makers" along the way. My advice is for you to keep your eyes open in all stores. I have also carved a few special things and searched on the internet. I use some Lego pieces, doilies, stamps, bottle caps, rulers, and whatever else strikes my fancy. No, I have never tried Gesso - I should look into it because several people have mentioned it as a texture-making tool.
