The Keller Group Photo Show

A group of local residents, who formed a small group linked by their love of photography, recently opened a show in North Hall on Mansfield University's campus.
Above, witness Martha an ART professor and Mardi the chairman of the ART department at Mansfield enjoying the show. Below, see part of the large crowd on hand listening to Wolfram Jobst the force behind the group. Actually the crowd was the largest in recent memory for an opening.
Above, the director of the gallery, Bob Geroux, also listens to Wolfram explaining the group and their approach to photography.

This summer saw the "ground-breaking" for the new arts building at Mansfield University. It will be known as the New Allen Hall. The old Allen Hall will be removed after the new is completed in the fall of 2010!
Below see the site which is to the east of Allen Hall - Will Butler Music Center is in the back.
Below is the first sign of construction in the hole.
Here is a view of the first footer poured.
Below you can see much progress - the wall of part of the foundation is formed-up.

M.U. faculty ART exhibit

The faculty of the ART Department at Mansfield University delivered the goods for the first show of the 2008-09 school year. Below you'll see Bob who is the advisor to the Art Committee that sets up the various art exhibits during the year in the North Hall Library.
Below Ruth Anne who is a weaver is smiling because there was a large and energetic crowd.
The striking pieces below were crafted by Bob.
Mardi, the professor who gave me the job of supervising ART student teachers, did the following pieces in porcelain.
A favorite place - the snack table!
Daryl put together the fun sculpture below.
Below some students look over my work.
I'm sorry that I didn't get photographs of everything! Maybe you can go to campus to see the show first hand!

Special project

When I was a young art teacher, I was expected to finish 24 additional college credits during my first six years of teaching. I took numerous art courses at Mansfield University. One summer, in a painting class, we were asked to design large paintings to be hung at the university. Our materials were paid for by the art department. Since 1975 this 6 foot by 8 foot painting has hung in a stairway in the Grant Science Center. The painting is comprised of 48 square pieces - many of them done in with my "textured painting" proceedures.
It was quite a sight when a friend, Jerry Bailey, helped me carry the finished work across Rt. 6 to the campus!

Andy Wales visits Mansfield University

Andy Wales (sometimes known at the Mighty Andar) presented his thoughts on reading, writing and creativity to maybe 30 art students, education majors and classroom teachers. He described himself as a "man with a mission." He had much scholarly research to backup his belief that by, reading and creating comics, kids can develop their language skills. We all agreed that working with comics was more fun than doing worksheets!
Above Andy demonstrates how we were soon to create our own comic character by using various elements from the "Sunday Comics." We received a crash course in "word balloon" development. One of the classroom teachers ended up with a strange looking fellow who was asking, "Hey girls, don't you think I'm cute?!?"
Andy entertained and enlightened us with another "tool" to use in classrooms to help kids want to put down their joysticks and read!
